On Judy's 80 acres is a place that appears to be an old settlement. I can see the squarish mound of earth that may have supported walls of wood. The four large nails, about 6 inches long, were found in the middle of the "place". They're similar bend would indicate they may have supported a "door" made of hides, maybe? The trap-looking thing was found behind the house. About 40 feet behind the house is a mound about 4 feet long and a foot or so high. Possibly a grave. About 100 feet further up the hillside is a small iron fence about 3 feet high. It was completely covered by years of grass-growth and only found by md as I was standing on it. I pulled about 14 feet of it out of the undergrowth. The other iron "do-hicky" was found there. Anyone give me any detailed info on what the trap was used for and what the other thingy is? Thanks... your spiked piece is an antique calf weaning muzzle. Later these were replaced with a nose ring plate that drops in front of the calfs mouth when the head is raised to nurse. The spiked collars were effective but if the calf was overly persistant it would cause damage to the mother, and the resulting infection was costly. Hope this helps.

The iron piece with the wrench pin looks to be from the draw bar of a plow. the 5 holes were used to change track the implement took behind the team.

Those look like wire nails which I believe dates them as post 1890.
