Forget it, stick it in the scrap pile.

I think it is a KG 3 congrats on the old copper

Great find. Wish we could get 3" of rain. Even 1"would help.

Try dipping a toothpick in a little virgin olive oil and rub it in with the toothpick, I don't see how it would hurt any, might get enough detail to id it----I do it with my ny cornfield coopers :icon_thumright:

The 2 inches of rain we got in the city on Tuesday, woke everything up on a hunt yesterday. Rain is good. Mud, not so much.
Congrats on the LC and good luck on the I.D.

Congrats! hope you can clean it up a little. -Lisa & John

Hi; I believe it is a King George. Try soaking it in Lemon Juice for a few hours then take a wooden toothpick and gently "PUSH" the dirt off. From the looks of the coin this will take a while but I believe the effort is worth it. It will not harm the coin itself ok. Good Luck. Let us know what it turns out to be ok. PEACE:RONB

I'm with Cru - scrap pile!

It's always exciting finding old copper but some ID's are just not meant to be. I must have 5 dozen roaches and slicks. Lol.

Oh, no matter what, don't use lemon juice.

Cheers

King George III half penny, probably a contemporary counterfeit.

To me it looks like a KGII,(Old Head) surely get that crud off it, to determine if a CT copper or not....
