Got my first silver proof today - 1968-S! It's also the first silver proof in my whole coin collection. Other 40% findings from $1000 searched were 66, 67x2, 68, 69x2. Also found an odd 2001-D that's smaller than the others. A normal half is 30.6mm but this one is 29mm and the tops of some of the letters are cut off at the edge. Wonder if this is struck on the wrong size planchet.

Congrats on the proof!! I'm just curious if the coins you get out of the slots are all beat up - I went to a casino here that has a few 50cent games, and when I cashed out, it was obvious that those halves had not left the casino in a loooooooong time. $200 cashed out and I didn't even find a single one without a completely smooth edge. I'm assuming there's a bigger influx of coins into the vegas casinos than those here in Minnesota though...

Yeah, it's pretty rough looking. Most proofs I find still have some mirror finish left but their better days are clearly behind them!

In general slot coins exhibit plenty of contact marks, especially in the fields around Kennedy's head. So much so that the ones without really stand out.

WOOT Immy awesome. You are really having a great year.

Good luck hope you keep on your great streak. I have red hair why don't you fly me out there. I can buy and dump some clad halves and you can rub my hair for continued luck LOL.

Congratulations,

Nice find I havent found a 40% silver proof yet. I have found 4 later date silver proofs. But none form the 60's. I'll keep on hunting for them.

Have they started to convert the coin slot machines in Vegas from using real coins to just a recipt that you can cash in yet? They did this in Wendover so you don't even touch coins any more. In fact, They even sealed up the slot that you deposit the coin into on the machine. You use paper money or a card, that's it, no change at all. Personaly, I think it's stupid. This takes all the fun out of it fo me. I love to hear those coins falling into the tray.

Yes, sparky they have and it's about 75% complete in the Strip hotels. Downtown in Old Vegas and some smaller local casinos coins are still king but you have to hunt for them. From the big casinos' perspective it's a huge money saving alternative (read: more people to lay off). No more "hard count" (coins) staff needed; about one third of the slot techs needed; vault and cage personel can be pared down; change girls wheeling carts filled with rolled coins are eliminated; jet sorters, coin rolling equipment, paper rolls, bags, cups no longer required.
