Just wanted to post this for all the token lovers :laughing7: (E.H. JARRETT - STAG BAR - 1501 MAIN ST. - JOPLIN, MO.) it has just about everything you could want on it except for the word "SALOON" :laughing7: Never get tired of digging these :headbang:

Love it especially the 2 1/2 denomination and the flower shape. Any idea on rarity/value? I also was curious is the establishment still standing? I noticed the address cool, cool, cool.

I love old tokens, especially saloon and bar tokens. Your 2 1/2 cent token was given out to someone when they played billiards ( 2 games for a nickel) or when they bought a beer (two beers for a nickel).

Boy, you could sure have fun for a nickel back then. ;D

1910 Census lists Eugene H. Jarrett, born Dec. 21, 1881, saloon proprietor. Lives at 1008 West 2nd St. He lived in Aurora MO in 1900 and Jefferson City in 1920.

Congrats on that token, just a wonderful find.

Very nice scallop, you don't see too many 2 and a half cents scallops out here.
At least it says bar.
Kudos,
Carl

Thanks alot for all the comments!!! No idea on rarity yet, but I believe the building still stands  Too bad pool & beer isnt still that price :laughing7: Also, thanks for the info on the 1910 census. Thanks again to everyone

I found a carterville trade token. Are there any groups in the Joplin area?

Nice token! It is listed in Smith's MO Index and on tokencatalog.com, but with no indication of rarity on either. How about posting the pics on tokencatalog.com? Thanks!

Lion--I'm having a hard time making out the wording on the obverse of your token - it appears to be this:
W.A. POUNDSTONE / CARTERVILLE / MO. (TC-95465) Carterville, Missouri (Jasper County), U.S.A.

You can click on the above link for a photo and more info. Is that correct? And, like the Joplin token, it is listed in Smith's MO Index but with no indication of rarity.

Yes it is! I went to the Webb City library and they couldn't tell me a darn thing except it was probably used in the mining days. They had never seen it before.

I also was trying to find out who W. A. Poundstone was and they couldn't find anyone with that name in their books. So I couldn't find out exactly what this was used for.

Cool token! Stag Bar? Is that a men's only bar?

That is one awesome token!

William Andrew Poundstone, born 5 Apr 1876 in Carterville, MO, d. 21 Sep 1949 in Joplin, MO was shown as a saloon-keeper in Carterville in both the 1900 & 1910 Censuses. By 1918 he had moved to Joplin. He is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City.
