White Boy and I were down at the Lowcountry Pow Wow over the weekend, White Boy is a Knapper and was doing demonstrations, when this elderly man approaches him with this artifact.. He said he found it when he was about 10 yrs. old and has been trying to find out what it is every since. The elderly man is now 87 yrs. old, so he has had this artifact for some 77 yrs. (WOW) I could not give him an answer and neither could White Boy.. We got his name and contact info and I told him I would post it on here to try to get some info for him.. Any help would be appreciated. I ran my Garret Pin pointer over it out of curiosity but it did not set it off.. It's some sort of stone or pottery but what?? Thanks in advance, Flat Button Chuck

Im guessing its the brown rock?

so let's suss it out....

first lets assume it is stone, real, and native america...

the hole in the middle had something in it...it looks the right size for a shaft of some sort.

...could it be some sort of wrench to straighten arrow shafts?

...hows about a piece of some sort of pump drill?

...someone took a lot of time to make it, shaped just so...it fit perfect for some reason

look at these and poke around a bit.

I'd call it a pendant.
I think the hole was as much a part of the design as A method to attach it that accounts for it being over sized.

If it's a pendant, should it not be biconically drilled?

True.
I'm not even sure its Native American I would definitely like to know the material.
If its pottery it may not be

we want better pictures ...both sides and close up ...especially the hole. and more description...what is it made of, where/how was it found, etc.
