TDhat is neat.I too would like to find out what
it is. What kind of metal do you thind
it is? It looks like brass but i wonder if
that might be a hallmark. Jim.

It's a piece broken off something made between 1837 and 1901.

"V.R." refers to Victoria Regina. Queen Victoria of England.

i knew that V. R. was familiar

cool man wonder what it was the top part of it seems to be broken off

Yeap, its a Victorian era lock plate cover. Swivelled over a padlock to cover the keyhole

I found one with the same V R (Victoria Regina) mark on it. I didn't know what it was when I found it. It was ID'ed here quickly. i love the knowledge on this site. Here's a couple pics of the one I found.
