🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Another whatsit from an early 1900s cavalry camp.

Found a brushy area that was low enough to detect that I've never gone over before. Lots of high tones but really only found this one mystery item that seemed interesting. Any ideas as to what it is/from?

I'd guess a strap went through the slot and the item was riveted to something. The rivets seem to have metal corrosion all around them and no traces of leather or fabric. So I'd guess it was attached to a canteen or part of an outdoor cooking kit or something similar.

Yeah, Part of a flap-latch off some kind of pouch or bag.
