Still working the same large section of woods, yesterday moving to the southern end. Right away hit a foundation...but so burried in trash it was unhuntable. Folks decided to turn this one into a dump in 1960's and 70's. Did manage to pick up a couple of old returnable glass pop bottles and cigarette case with a moose lodge logo attached.

Had a long hard stretch of nothing as I moved farther in, battling mud and dense brush. I was getting ready to give up when I spotted a purple thong hanging from a branch on the next ridge. You KNOW I gotta go check it out.

First hit under the undies wasn't a pull tab or bottle cap as expected...but an old, old pot metal spoon. Just up the hill a bit from this was another foundation, old red brick. After a long morning of almost nothing to dig, the cool stuff just started pouring out of the ground.

Got a nice gold plated "Columbus Railway & light co" button...it's from the 20's or 30's...back when the electric company also ran a railroad. Military buttons and buckles...the weirdest buckle has a guy on horse back with an inscription in Japanese...possibly a soveigner from the war? Also a cool name plate, like from a mail box or something. Iron backed with a glass front...sezs "A. C. Ewing."

But oddly no money. ELEVEN cents in clad for the entire day.

Also discovered an abandoned road through the woods, it connects this foundation to somewhere...so I have hopes the road leads somewhere interesting.

Oh the panties DO seem a bit large and uh...well..."modified" to be worn by someone other than a girl. I do run into some trippy stuff out there some days...

OK, that's more info than any of us needed. Cripes! I am now going to vomit. ::)

So if you find a pile of 1920's era junk, do you dig down through it with the possibility of finding older stuff beneath? I'm asking because I really enjoy junk piles.

That thong's nasty!!!

She must have been also, just look how she wore out the front. eeeeewwwww!

Looks like more than the deer were 'shedding"in those woods.  ;)
ROTFLOL. Looks as though they were torn off though hope that wasn't a bad situation.
That woods sure is producing some um interesting finds for you Jim. You may want to start wearing rubber gloves.

Thought of that one too. The main junk pile dates to 1945-1955 on the surface, you have to dig deeper for the 1920's stuff. I haven't gotten any hints at all about any thing older than 1910...but that's silver plate flatware that could have been in use for decades before getting dumped. Hard goods tend to have long life spans...the disposable glassware, med bottles and such, are showing dates much younger. Nothing I hate more than spotting a junk pile in the distance only to find "duraglass" when I get there. So, I'm working this theory that there's an much older homestead father down the abandoned road...and older junk piles in between.

Going to hit again tomorrow...and this is going to be a hard hunt...I have to close my eyes and walk past the small foundation that has produced so much cool stuff after so many empty hours of swinging...have to press on farther down the old abandoned road.

Ugh! Wear rubber boots, too. Looks like you've stumbled on to an old homesite, necking spot, dump, playground, etc. I think the weirdest thing on your list is a ... bowling ball ??? . How did it ring up on your MD? :D Good luck! -Noodle

Great post Jim. I'm facinated by the way your dating your site by the collection of the finds. I'm sure when you've completed the searches you'll have it nailed down to a few decades. I'll guess that so far and excluding the thong the items would be from the 40's and 50's as I was around then and remember seeing and using most on your display.

Then too weird I found another bowling ball today? Don't ask for pics either, not a CHANCE I was hauling another one out of the woods.

This story however ends in black top, sadly...followed the road to where the homesite should have been...and it's a black top parking lot. Maybe next time...

So thats what happened to those underwear I lost. Think you could mail them back to me!!??

Just one question. What happened to the crotch of those panties? LOL

I would have left those in the tree. gross. bring somebodies undies home my wife would throw me out,

damn! that poor girl lost her panties to a wild rabid deer! ::) :) must have been a vicious attack!! ;D

Eww.... they coulda had crotch critters. :-[

I've heard of bending over and 'ripping' the seam of your pants....buuuttt ummmmmmmm????

Hmmmm, maybe it came off a female tree.
Did that ever cross your mind?

Bwahahahahahha!

don't forget the spoon he found underneath, she was probably sharing crack with the deer when things got out of control....roflmao

total of 8 spoons from this small site, all different patterns, no forks...what does that say?

White's IDX is a very powerfull tool in the woods, I'm currently trying to get the wireless headset working for it...having some problems getting it wired in properly. (mostly cause I just duct stuff together) Out in the brush I don't depend on target ID, there's enough to deal with just trying to get through the thicket...I run sens wide open and discrim set just below nickel. All the thing has to do is beep and pin point, VDI numbers are completely useless since I'm going to dig everything anyways...I use the trash dug to locate sites, follow the flow of materials, determine age, that sort of thing.

I'll be sure to post the next pair of undies I find.
