It has been a good summer so far for garage sale finds. I went to a Sunday sale & I picked these up. I was told they are an early California Style. There are no makers mark that I can tell. The makers mark might be worn off or they may have never had any. What is interesting is the Triangle F symbol on the leather. I paid $10 for these. I have been offered $300 from a big time spur dealer. Thanks for looking. DSC06827.webpDSC06828.webpDSC06826.webpDSC06825.webpDSC06824.webp

So those must be the real deal, not the modern rodeo spurs. Nice

There are several "Triangle F" Ranches across the West and the spurs could have been owned by a Cow Poke that worked on one of them. It would be great if you could find out who owned them as you would then have some Provenance to help in selling the spurs and boosting their' value. Check around for experts or knowledgeable folks on Spurs, other than the Dealer who made the offer, to see if anyone can pin down where the Spurs may have been made. If you can find where they were made or even who made them, then you might find out which Triangle F Ranch they are associated with and possibly the original owner.

Some of the larger farms had a blacksmith just for that farm. Maybe someone got hired on to break horses and was "issued" a set of spurs....funds withheld from pay, of course! :tongue3:

Look for the larger farms that used that brand. As simple as the brand is, I'd say it is probably one of the older farms - just guessing.

Those are a nice looking pair of spurs. Have you examined these with a magnifying glass to look for a makers mark? Sometimes it's hard to find without one. If you were offered $300 by a dealer, rest assured they are worth a minimum of double that. Looks like it's gonna be pretty hard to trace the livestock brand. Here is a start for you, showing a few Triangle F brands from Arizona- https://books.google.com/books?id=o...EIITAB#v=onepage&q=brand "triangle f"&f=false

Here is a link that mentions the registering of a Triangle F brand in 1887 in Texas under the "CONNELL AND EUBANK RANCHES" here- Ranches

Personally, I would contact this guy and get his opinion on them and whether they are worth spending the money on to get them restored. Some old spurs are worth thousands. Even if they aren't marked certain people can attribute a maker simple by the construction methods used and the style of the spur itself. This is one such person-

I'd say that you've "got spurs that jingle jangle jingle "!!! Jingle all the way to the bank!! That was an incredible find. I know nothing about Spurs but I do know that many can be very valuable. Well done!!

Thank You!

I will definitely do this. Thanks for your help! I appreciate the excellent advise from you & all those who have taken the time to respond. The only past Triangle F Ranches I could find were as you mentioned Arizona, & what is now Bondurant, Wyoming. There is also a current Triangle F Ranch in Oregon. Regards, Jim W.

Thanks for that. That was one of the songs we learned in elementary school in Texas!

Dang, we had to sing Frère Jacques and I still don't know what I was singing.

LYRICS TRANSLATION
Frère Jacques, Frère Jacques, Brother Jack, Brother Jack,
Dormez-vous? Dormez-vous? Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping?
Sonnez les matines! Sonnez les matines! Ring the morning bells! Ring the morning bells!
Din, dan, don. Din, dan, don. Ding, dang, dong. Ding, dang, dong.

...this IS A song?!?!? :dontknow: I'll take Kenny Rogers and Don Williams any day. :laughing7:
