I just got home from the local ARC and unscrewed our Lord from the cross to clean up this cast nickel and micro mosaic crucifix, I paid $9 and change for. A lot of time I'm sure goes in to these little mosaic works of art and I find them absolutely fascinating. I do think it odd, that the Christ figure would cover up a portion of the mosaic work, but only one screw from the back attaches the Jesus figure, so it's easy to show what's underneath. I think Jesus could be casted in solid silver by the look and weight of him and I don't see any purity marks on him either. I'm thinking it's a souvenir from the city of Rome? Not sure of when it was made, but judging how It's made I'm guessing maybe from the 1950s?
