Re: antique railroad tag

Welcome to the forum and the tag sounds interesting. A picture is always the best way for getting something identified. My wife retired from a RR and it could be an old baggage tag..............or not? They also had tool tags and often identified a length of track by affixing a tag to one of the ties. Could also be a union ID tag, or several other things. Picture please and something to indicate the size. Thanks Monty

Pics added. It measures 1 1/2" tall and 2 " long. I'm wondering what local means? Within the state or for example: New York to CT.

LOCAL - These were not to leave the "home" road. They do not have a specified station (just road and unique number). Generally one check i the pair is marked with a small star or other identification mechanism.

The area you circled is where I scratched with my nail looking for a maker's mark. Doesn't appear to be one.
