Any chance this is a 1780 copper?

Picked this up today. It's about the size of a large cent and looks to be 99% toast! The only possible thing I see is what may be part of the date - 1780. Am I seeing things?

Thanks for any help!

Probably just seeing things, or the corrosion is obstructing the date from reading it clearly because 1780 would be an unusual year for a coin to turn up at a Colonial site. I could think a while and come up with something, but I can't think of anything you'd expect to come out. It's too far gone you'll never know so no choice but to move on to finding the next.

Very interesting coin find..would you consider electrolyzing it to get a clearer view of the obverse and reverse?
