I found this today in Starke, Fl where they have been clearing trees for a bypass that's coming thru.

It's cup shaped. Kind of spherical, but flat on the bottom.

Any guesses or ideas as to what it is? I have it soaking in vinegar, trying to remove some of the encrustation.

An old roller skate wheel? Its still pretty rusty but it may get clearer with more rust removal

Iron ?

Errr like solid and heavy even. ?

either knock some rust off of it with a hammer as some do....or do as I would and give it a electrolytic bath.

I'm gonna go out on that limb now and say it's a steel pipe cap.

A fossilized moon pie I think.

Your all wrong I'm afraid. It's a portable Bluetooth speaker....Probably English.... Circa 1740's. ... How would they have this technology you ask?

And the winner appears to be ....[Drum Roll]..... Black Bart. Congratulations.[emoji322]. You, sir, are the proud new owner of a rusted bearing buddy. You have the option to keep it, or gift it to one of the other gents on the thread. [emoji38]ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1482840851.609077.webp

Oh my gosh !!!! What an honor !!! Im preparing my red carpet acceptance speech now. I think the only place that such a valuable and precious piece of Florida history could possibly reside is in Tallahassee on the desk of the states head archeologist. Im sure they will want the site location and all other pertinent information reguarding this find in order to do an in depth dig and find the other rare and precious bearing buddy !! Man I think I almost fainted from the excitement of this incredible moment in my life !!!! Sorry kcm maybe next time !!!

Boy, I'm glad I'm not the ONLY crazy one here.

That last pic really shows the exquisite beauty and craftsmanship of the piece. Such high technology, I must agree could only have been brought to us by ALIENS.
