I have heard that before, a sort of trigger guard? But cannot find a photo of something like that being used.

Now I understand taz42o ! Thanks for the photo. This type of gun guard was used on ? 19th century or earlier guns? Would you know what era it was?

Late into the party, but that was my thought as well. 19th C I think, but I suppose late 18th is not out of the question. Its brass, not bronze.
