Any Idea what this is?

Dug this up in the backyard of a old home early 1900's Was about 6" deep .. have no idea what it came off of.. Any help would be appreciated Shane

I cleaned out the one end it was full of dirt looks like something may of fit into the hole...hope the pic is clear . Thanks for all the info so far Shane

It looks like a fishing rod holder or at least part of it anyway.

I'm almost positive its some type of utilitarian device that had a handle on it and was used for either prying or stretching.. Look closely at the flattened section can you see any use damage anywhere if it was used for something that involved impact?
I'm starting to think this was for leatherworking that's kind of where my mind was when I was thinking of the shoemaker
