Any Idea????

Found this yesterday.Seems to be like a lock latch or something. Cast brass & very heavy built.But what's odd is what ever it was attached to was thin copper.Just seems like a over kill for a lock latch being mounted on such a thin piece of copper.
Must of been the honest mans lock latch. You can see the brads hammered to the thin copper underneath.

Just had a brain fart about the same time I posted. Maybe went to a copper pot.What do you think

Yep makes total sense now. It was one of those things that you have your mind set one way & not thinking clearly. Then it comes to ya you know.Comes with age I guess.

I KNOW THAT I AM A SUCKER FOR THE OLD TREASURE STORIES. HAVING SAID THAT, IT SEEMS THAT ABOUT 20% OF THE OLD STORIES MENTION FRENCH OR SPANIARDS CARRYING
GOLD COINS, ETC OR BURYING THEM IN COPPER POTS. MAYBE IT JUST MAKES FOR MORE INTERESTING READING OR MAYBE THERE IS SOMETHING TO IT.

EITHER WAY, I WOULD GO BACK TO THAT SPOT AND LOOK SLOW AND DEEP WITH A GOOD METAL DETECTOR.... YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PUT SOME FACT INTO THOSE OLD STORY LINES.

JUST A THOUGHT. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOOSE?
