Found this out behind a old house by what looked like a place for storing corn there were mason jars w/ milk glass lids or porcelain & medal lids. Any ideas.

Looks like a reservoir from an old kerosene heater similar to the shown inside this one:

When I lived in Florida we called them smudge pots. They were used to keep the citrus fruit from freezing.

Same deal in California. Except this one is decorated, and the smuge pots were plain. I'm thinking kerosene heater for in the house.

if it helps any the knob is a pump. Dont you just love the guessing part, reminds me of the game Clue lol

come to find out the pump thing is not a pump and after removing dirt there is a part of a wick.

Smudge pots don't have pumps, and they don't have wicks either. I'm sure you have part of a kerosene heater, which would have an adjustable wick, especially so it wouldn't smoke up the house. Smudge pots put out lots of smoke, they were stinky damn things. Now days they use propellers to stir up the air, and will also irrigate, coating everything with ice, which keeps it right at 32 degrees and saves it from freezing.
