I was thinking that but on other flat buttons I’ve found I could see a mark where the smaller circle clasp attaches to the button. I don’t see that on this one. Maybe it’s just a different type. Thanks for checking it out

It could be an old smaller caliber bullet that was converted to a game piece like a checker. Not uncommon to find purposely flattened bullets in civil war sites.
