Hard for me to tell from the pic, I wish I could see it in person...very pretty! My guess is garnet in massive form. Is the rock wet in the pic? If so try to get a pic dry, when it is wet it's true luster is altered.

I agree with Zim as far as getting a dry pic, also try to scratch it with quartz, garnet is harder than quartz so quartz shouldn't scratch it unless it's something else entirely. The host rock looks to me like the type of host rock you would find garnet in (among other things). What's the term for the host rock, schist/gneiss/amphibole?

Not sure but it was found in an ancient lavabed. Also the picture of this is dry not wet if that helps. Ill try and post a picture of it with less sun light if thatll help

Here is another one of her finds in the same crevice. This rock is wet to show the color better but i belive this to be jasper. Maybe im wrong. Ill admit. Shes on fire lately.

On #1, get a shot of the opposite side. Has a slight resemblance of a pyroclastic rock IMO.

#2 is quartz.
