Found in an old city dump, any ideas? (Quarter for size comparison) hollow inside.

Possibly, but the + in the middle kinda elimanates a spot for the pole?

I keep leaning to that idea, maybe it was from a feed mill, & the grain ran out of it into the sack?

It would certainly work well for that even if that was not it's original intended use....it has a very similar design to many hoppers I saw growing up on the farm

Because its pretty darn thick and heavy I think its more a surface water drain. A rain hopper would be lighter. I had until a few years ago such a water drain in my back yard, looked quite a bit like this one. You put it between the tiles or bricks on you patio and run a drain from the bottom to a sewer pipe...

I agree with Fossis. I didnt know hoppers grew

its upside down. if you live in an older house, go down in the basement and look at the floor and you'll see one just like it. the tabs on the side are to anchor it in the concrete.

Set it in place and pour the concrete thru the tube on top...

That was my first thought. Just guessing.
