Any ideas? Silver?

I found this at a home built in 1860. Any ideas what it is? It's plated and I'm assuming it's silver. Thanks for looking.

That had to have made one hell of a racket when the lawn mower hit it !!! Glad I didn't drop it as a kid and my father hit it with a mower. That's from back in the day when you could beat your kids and my as* would still be feeling it and I'm in my 50's.
