This isn't exactly a find, but I will put it out here anyway and maybe someone an give some info... This painting. Was donated to our church in I think the 60's by an really old lady and from what I understand, she had it for quite a while. So I believe the painting to be possibly 100 years old. Any information, even if it is about the frame, or even about a similar work that could help indicate the artist! Haven't taken it out of the frame to see if there is possibly a name hidden. Afraid too...

IMHO, I believe that it may be a 19th Century painting of a scene in the Orient (Asia) or of the same but totally envisioned in the Artist's minds eye! I state this due to the rectangular long sails on the sailboat but other locations may have used the same type of sails on sailboats. Although these could have been used on some early sailboats here in the U.S., I don't think these have been used here during the same time period or since.

I was wondering about those boats! Possibly the fence style is a clue also... Almost looks like a building between the two boats on the left. Look on the right edge of the flat part. Never noticed it until now... Am I just seeing things?

No you are not seeing things! It appears to be some type of Church or Monastery.

I thought those were water spots (damage).

I still think this is a Hudson River School painting. The frame says "Victorian" to me but it could be earlier.

Hopefully you'll get some info back from the museum.
