The advanced search function at Mindat is amazing.
Just put in the observed qualities of the mineral sample and it will give you a list of possibilities with links to each mineral's page.

This will not work for rocks. Rocks don't have set hardness, streak etc. Each rock is different no matter what they are called. Every mineral, on the other hand, has a specific set of qualities that don't change.

I'm still new to identifying crystals so confirming/assuming the identity of crystals is still a difficult task for me. I would appreciate it if anyone has any advice to help me with this! Thanks in advance!
