I can give you my statistics on nickels if it helps.

So far this year, I have searched $3,096 (61,920 coins) in nickels. I have found 36 WWII silver, and 13 buffaloes. 5 of the buffaloes have the date worn off. This amounts to one silver or buffalo per $63 searched. I have also found 2 1939S nickels.

Last year I searched $4,120 (82,400 coins) and found 63 silver and 52 buffaloes. I got lucky in which I found 31 silver and 40 buffaloes (25 dateless) in rolls of CWR one day in a collection dump. Amounted to one silver or buffalo per $34 in coins searched. Also found the 1938S (2x), 1939D and 1939S.

In 2020 I searched $5,318 (106,360 coins) and found 46 silvers 24 buffaloes (11 with no date). Also found the 1939D
In 2019 I searched $2,180 (43,600 coins) and found 15 silvers, 11 buffaloes (3 no date) and 1 V nickel. Also found the 1938D and 1939D Jeffersons.

good luck

Thank you for the stats. This is what I wanted. Did you get the nickel dump by getting the coin machine sack of nickels from the bank?

The nickel dump was just in CWRs. I got $10 or $20 from the bank that day and then I went back and bought another $10 (which is what they had left in CWR) but those were nothing. I don't have access counting machines around here. Also, none of the results I had were from searching boxes.

I have searched halves for some time, but I want to try nickels. Anyone having any luck? I would be looking for War, Buffalo, and V nickels?
Right now I have about 8 bags waiting to be searched. Generally, I can expect at least a couple war nickels and Buffs. One recent bag had twelve buffs in it. Also V nickels, proofs, scarce coins like the 38 and 39 D and S. Foreign coins, too, not just Canadian. It's worth my time, once the halves, quarters and dimes are gone!

The halves are starting to get hard to find so I've started hunting nickels too. I've hunted about fifteen boxes in the last four months and have found 16 war nickels, 22 buffalo's, a V, a number of key/semi key dates and a variety of BUs.

When we went to Vegas my brother uses to sit at the Nickel machine for hours , He would show me old wartime issues, cracked dies like a flagpole on the dome & such , I did not care about them but he would be able to drink for Free & not loose too much Money . Me not so much - $ , I think it might be hard to find real coin machines now .
