The 2 holed stone is flat and smooth on one side and has lines or etching on the front side this is the one that really has me puzzled . i think the other 2 items are just misc junk ?? unsure, thanks

I see two pcs. that are basically chips to preforms. I cannot determine from the pic if the 2 holes in the one piece are drilled or not. If they are it is most likely a banner stone of some type from my guess? I may need new glasses. Thanks for the post--Keith.

Can't tell from the pics, a little too fuzzy and can't make out detail, plus nothing in them for scale either.

here is a pic of just the stone . :dontknow:

Very interesting looking piece now that we have some really good clear pictures. Did it come from a place where you normally find artifacts? It sure has the look of some sort of ornamentation. The only thing the throws me is the holes. They don't seem to be conical like most drilled holes are. I guess they could be drilled similar to a Bannerstone and be straight through. Cool looking piece and I'm curious what others will say now that we can see it better. Do you have any idea what the material is other than just to say it's stone? Like what type of stone?

i honestly have no idea what type stone it is . this peice came from my yard after i tiller a garden.
I am very close within 1/8 mile from an old place that belonged to caleb starr who married nancy wards daughter . i think her name was nannie harlin . supposed to be alot of cherokee action in this area. just do not know much more than that as far as history or identification of rocks. sorry

by the way this is my first find . never hunted for anything before in lines of cherokee artifacts. i do a little metal detecting though . thanks

Oh yeah, there you go, much better pics. Very interesting piece. I'm with SRV, have you found other artifacts there at all?

looks like it can't be identified

I would call it a Gorget until someone proved it different. It has the look of one to me.

I've seen a couple different pieces like that over the years made from broken bowls or broken steatite bowls. It looks like a piece of worked pottery to me, I can see some grit/temper in the material. I'd call it a pottery gorget.

I don't think you can specifically call it a Cherokee Artifact as they were fairly late arrivals to most of what today is considered 'Cherokee Country', it could easily be 10 to 1000 years earlier than their arrival (or it could have been made by them, you just can't know for certain.)

I have noticed that the peice has metallic type specs throughout it. very interesting . i went out today to look for a stone that would match this material and did not have any luck.As of now i have to agree with the pottery theory. thanks

Those metallic specs are usually bits of Mica in the clay.

First thing I thought of was a button. I also agree with the mica.
