Perhaps the fastest way to determine if a coin is Hungarian or not is the word Magyar.

Ethnic Hungarians are referred to as Magyars. There are about 9.5 Magyars in Hungary today. Perhaps of interest is the fact that there is also about 1.5 Magyars living in the US.

Magyar is today simply the Hungarian word for Hungarian. In English and many other languages, however, Magyar is used instead of Hungarian in certain (mainly historical) contexts, usually to distinguish ethnic Hungarians (i.e. the Magyars) from the other nationalities living in the Hungarian kingdom.

The name of the coin, forint, comes from the city of Florence, Italy. This coin is symbolic of the inflation that Hungary faced during the period of its minting. Worthless in any food market today, it still has great historic and educational value; and a great conversational piece.
Nice find.

Here you go.
The numbers have increased since I wrote that piece 3 yrs. ago:

Out of the total 15 million Hungarians in the world - a number corresponding to the population of Australia - 90% lives in the Carpathian Basin, on the historical territory of Hungary (Tab. 1). There are 3.3 million Hungarians living outside the borders of present-day Hungary, forming, apart from the 15.1 million ethnic Russians, the greatest minority in Europe, having the same size as the population of Ireland and outnumbering the population of around 80 countries in the world
