Anyone know what this is?

Found yesterday under an old oak tree in North Carolina woods near Lillington, NC. No houses in the area and on north side of cape fear. Measures 1-1/4" x 3/4".

This looks like a suspender or garter clip

Maybe half of a sash buckle, although those measurements are a little small for one. Nice find.

Good thought. The garter clip makes sense to me. It is missing the back clip and probably for a female since it is so ornate.
