anyone know what this key might have been used for?

It may also be a key 'blank'; before being 'cut'.

I don't think it is a skeleton key, if it was the bow would have some kind of hole or way to attach it to a chain or ring. It reminds me of a switch, one that is not electrical. It has a thumb twist on one end and an actuator on the other end and it could be a twist for a door lock. it could actuate a vent, gear, linkage, etc.
