Anyone MD'd in Haiti?

Trying to get out to Haiti later this year. Anyone ever been there and detected?
I know they have a cruise ship port, but I will be going solo so will want to try other beaches, inland and scuba.

any advice appreciated!

BVI, pay for my way there and all my expenses and i will go with you:) What research are you doing concerning this area? Maybe I can assist.

Research is done, as far as basic research goes - now its boots on the ground time to see if all the markers line up :dontknow:

thanks for the offer of help too

(you do know that if we both go, we'll be murdered right?):occasion14:

I detected in Basra once, during GW2

I was in Basra, didn't have a detector with me there. I did have access to one in Kirkuk tho-

Egads, metal shards everywhere. Pottery pieces were about the only thing worth picking up, and you had to be careful where you walked...

I hear ya!!!

Theres still lots of iron on the beaches from the Earthquake a few years back

Just because we still don't know where the 1.3 billion ( with a " b" ) dollars went from the 2008 Haiti Hurricane Relief Fund, you call them corrupt . The one thing we do know for sure is that it wasn't used to repair Haiti or help their residents .

Don't have a clue why anyone would want to go to Haiti to metal detect , the only thing you'll find there is sickness, despair and poverty....and that's without even turning on you machine.

Lookindown - what areas are the worst, what are better, what are the tourist areas?
I need to utilize your experience there!

thanks:thumbsup:
Ive got enough sense to not go there...why are you upset that people are warning you about going there? Are you Haitian?

Not upset at all, nor am I Haitian. But I do know a few and they are some of the nicest people I ever met.

My question was who has BEEN? not DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GO?
I realise many experienced members on here are well travelled (some not so much) and was hoping to use their experience as a guide.

Thanks anyway

Fair enough, your right, your question wasn't answered. Ive had Haitians work for me and they were nice people. I was just surprised you got agitated from peoples warnings. I think they were trying to help even though they didn't answer your question. Good luck on your trip and let us know how it goes.

Haiti is a bad place. Do not go there.

CRUISE SHIPS STILL GO THERE - BUT FRIENDS I KNOW THAT HAVE GONE - WILL STAY ON BOAT AND PASS AT THAT STOP

For what its worth, I went on a cruise about 10 years ago and one of the ports of call was Dominican republic. When we were pulling into the port the ship made an announcement that all travelers were advised not to leave the resort area and do not cross over into Haiti. That was enough to make most passengers stay on the ship.
