Anyone use an auger for digging

Curious if anyone has every used a gas powered auger for digging up deep finds

Hey Benny. I'm sure someone has and probably continued until they ripped a cherry CSA in half 😳
Detector depth estimates are just that... estimates and rarely accurate enough to take the chance.
Dig in Benny... there's no way around it... its kinda like hunting a bottle pit with a pick axe.

I have been thinking about using an auger for digging test holes while prospecting.

Yes…..if putting in fence posts. No….if anything related to relic recovery.

Sounds like a good way to mangle the object that you are trying to find. Or twist your arm off when you hit a tree root or a rock 🤣

Wonderful way to break a wrist unless detecting in beach sand. I cannot imagine any valuable target other than perhaps large iron that I’d even consider using an auger on.

That may be good for gold nuggets, but that's about it. Maybe a bigger auger with holes in it and side skirting for lazy beach detecting, no more scooping.

Been digging holes for 55 yrs and have never thought of using an auger.
Why? It just doesn't make too much sense why I would want to mangle a keeper.
Heck my shovel does that already.

I have been thinking about using an auger for digging test holes while prospecting.

I met an old guy who did that and he discovered a very shallow narrow rich lead on the Dunolly - Tarnagulla goldfields area in Victoria. Wasn't big enough to be viable for a company had they found it but for him it certainly was.
Worked for him that's for sure.
