These stone like pieces were dug in Niskayuna, NY. I use to think they were formed due to roots rotting away, then the clay turning to stone. However that does not explain the somewhat concentric circles. Any ideas? The pics are the same except the items are turned over.

I'd say 1st row, 3rd & 4th pieces and 2nd row, center piece are root castings as you said. The others look like fossils--some which are shells.

Top left looks like a Gastropod the bottom middle looks like a couple rocks I picked up this weekend for fun I’m guessing a fossil weathered away or fell out leaving the hole, thought I may carve something into it and hang it
