Apush: It has been posted before, but still strange!

I was viewing coins on ebay here as of late. Every now and then, as they say, a blind squirrel gets an acorn (well, Mr. Apush does not say it exactly that way--but I am a lady). Well, occassionally I can snatch up a silver coin or two under melt--rare, but it does happen. Just got to watch.

Well, I have heard it, but never seen it until yesterday. Several folks had rolls of halves on ebay (the ones that come in the standard boxes of $500) that included both yellow, black, and the brown traditional wrappers. Geez Louise! I saw one roll sell for $26.00! A profit of $16.00 (minus the ebay fees, of course). Then, one guy (yes, I am being gender bias) had 5 rolls listed at a starting bid of $70.00 plus shipping! The catcher here is that he had some "posted feedback" whereas the buyer claimed he had obtained at least 3x the amount he paid in silver. Perhaps that is a valid truth, perhaps it is not.

Yeah, it has been brought up a few times in the past week, with some strong opinions going both ways. I am on the side of - If there are people out there who are willing to pay $15-20 more than they have to, then so be it. I see nothing wrong with people listing these - most I have looked at list them accurately and never make promises the buyer is going to hit silver in the rolls.

It is quite amazing to me people are so uninformed that they would pay that high of a premium. Even before I knew about CRH, if I wanted to try and find coins, the first place I would have gone would have been the bank, and the last place - eBay.

I thought about selling unsearched rolls on ebay (truly unsearched by me) but I know my statistics and there is very very little chance they would have silver in them. I'd be afraid of bad feedback from all the disappointed customers. I may sell some rolls of half dollars where I list out what is in the roll, I've seen those go for more than face ($7-10) but I don't think it is worth the effort and time, I'd rather just get a box of dimes and hopefully make $2
