Just got back from my new permission site. I had a feeling this button was something special when I picked it up. It seems to be in pretty good condition. I read they are from 1820 and this boggles my mind. United States is written on the back. I took the picture very close to the light and you can almost see it. I'd always heard stories growing up that there was some early military activity going on near where I live. Finding something like this gives those stories a whole new meaning. Also got an indian and a large cent. Good detail on the large cent but I can't figure out why the date is almost rubbed out. I can barely make out 1850. Also I've been trying to figure out why my photo's don't enlarge like everyone else's when you click them. I'm doing something wrong when I post them I think. Good Hunting

The Great Coat button is of the 2-piece variety, and probably dates from the mid 1840's to 1850's. The Great Coat buttons from the 1820's and 30's were of the one piece variety. Either way, nice button!

Thanks, I threw that date out there after a quick google search.
