3010/GC-1010 Metal Detector (Generic I think. I got from Ebay)
I am so excited. Today I was out in my yard metal detecting a part of the yard that I had not done yet and while my son was screening the dirt he found an almost perfect arrowhead! Not 15 min. before he found it I told him to keep his eyes out for some.

We live about 1/4 mile N. of the Fort St. Joseph site in Niles, MI, up on a hill along the St. Joe river. I have never found one but I have always thought our yard would be a good spot to find out. Now I may have turned my son into a treasure hunter for sure! As far as metal, found a few nails and scrap.

Nice find I find some around here now and then....Matt

Very Nice! Great find! :icon_thumright:

Congratulations and welcome to this site. I live about 45 minutes east of you. Lots of history in your area including Fort St. Joseph and the Carey Mission. Those two sites pre-date about everything here in Michigan. That's a nice point.

Awesome! That is on my bucket list....

Re: 1st Arrowhead found. :-)

I hope there are more. The part of the yard I am detecting in is mostly dirt and some weeds so we will be digging targets and screening a lot of the dirt. If there are more I will post them. I have always wanted to find a real arrowhead. I am so glad it was my 9 year old who actually found it in the dirt. So exciting. It is in excellent sharp and VERY sharp.

By the way, if anyone lives near Southwest Michigan the Fort St. Joseph Archaeological dig will have their open house with a outdoor museum, artifacts on display, period demonstrations, and one on one interactions with the staff while they are digging and screening. It is very very cool. It is coming up in a few weeks. Aug. 13th & 14th 2011
