Nice finds Doering. Thanks for sharing...

They look just like what is in the jars and baskets of them I've seen at tourist traps.

Guess my answer would be yes and that is why I came back and asked if you found them. Being a flint knapper and having found many heads on the desert the two you posted look like what quito wrote. Not saying they are not real artifacts. My wife found a point on the desert that is a work of art. The nicest point I have ever seen as an artifact and my knapping friend to this day thinks that someone made it and planted it on the desert.

And I know a flint knapper out west that has planted knife blades on a very very rich mans property just to get back at him for his high prices he sets for hunting. (That is not right but he did it)

What's the tell tail sign that they are novelty items? It seems rock Arrowheads are a dime a dozen. Seems like everyone has found one at one time in their lives so I find it funny to see people say it was bought at a gift shop. Sorry to burst your bubble but they were found in my relatives farm grove back when he was a kid.

You won't burst my bubble. You've had some smart people give heir honest **OPINION** take them for what they are worth.

Some people have been known to toss those things around to give kids something to do in finding them, and we all know it.... How's your bubble holding up?

I'm a knapper. Those are definetly tourist shop points. Sorry jmo

Definitely tourist shops novelty Arrowheads. You can get them at just about Museum Gift Shop for $.50 to $1.00 each. Your relative may have found them, but I would bet they were planted for them to find.

Sorry there's no bubble for me as they are not mine. But was just fishing for input didn't mean to come off snippy sorry I respect all the opinions thanks. He said they were found over the years on his farmland. Along with a hammer stone.

Yeah...I'm not a knapper and the first thing I thought when I saw the picture (before reading any comments) was that they looked like the "arrowheads" I would buy as a kid at the trading post...right next to the rock-tumbled colorful stones and amazing new shiny civil war mini balls...I bought them as a kid and knew they were not real...didn't stop me though!

Just cause the 2 arent real deal doesnt mean everything in that field is salted. I believe maybe his relative through them down for him to have a thrill of finding something. I have read that many of times in the past for kids or newbies. I bet he hunted for yrs after that. If you zoom on the 2nd one you can see the stain is coming off and it is white underneath it. Thats a sure sign.

May also just have accidentally been mixed in with real artifacts in error in the home.

They do look just like ones sold in tourist shops.

Yeah I have absolutely no knowledge of these arrowheads so I got the info I was looking for I guess :-). When I was showing him my rat tailed spearhead (I found)! he pulled these out to show me so I put them on this Forum to see if I could get some feedback for him. So now I don't know what to believe but he claims to have found these in an area on his land which there would be no reason for someone to plant fakes for him to find. He's a multimillion dollar farmer and really doesn't get excited over this stuff but he has kept these things for a keepsake for years.

try this..."Mexican arrowheads"....

mexican arrowheads - Google Search

What we are trying to tell you is that stone type, style, context and patina are just as important as to the story of how the items were found.

So are these recreations then or are they actual finds?

they are recreations like what i believe you have and i believe treasure hunter may be on the right track also my friend
