🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Artillery trace chain?

I’ve been trying to figure out is this part of military horse chain for wagon/cannon? Could it be just a farmers horse related? I finally got it straightened out, it was a rusted ball of links. , found at CW river crossing. I just want to confirm either way

Several uses, I think they were called toggle chains?
