For a while now I've been eyeing a multi acre play field at a local Boys and Girls club. I got the ok to hunt it, but it's been so hot lately (over 100 degrees) that I haven't gone out there. Well it doesn't look like the heat is going to let up anytime soon so I decided to do a quick nighttime hunt when it was a little cooler.

At sites like this I tend to dig all solid low tones in the hopes of finding some gold. Fortunately, this time it paid off. I got a repeatable 12-31 on the etrac and pulled out a gold charm. In retrospect I think I may have cut the chain when cutting my plug, so I may have left some of it in the ground. Oh well, at least I got the charm out.

I think this is Thai jewelry but I could be mistaken. A piece like this that I found a few years ago was stamped .999 and tested at 24K. This charm tested at least 22K, so it's between 22 and 24k. The only possible stamp is at the bottom of it. It's either a weak strike of .9999, or it's nothing and just part of the design. Regardless, it's 5.2 grams of gold.

On a side note, I am holding a guessing contest over on the Metal Detecting Forum and am giving away a few older coins to the winner. If you haven't already, head over there or hit this link and take a guess!

New guessing contest with a silver prize!

Congratualtions on the gold recovery! :occasion14:

Too bad about the chain but still a great find.

I went back to see if I could find my plug and hopefully find the rest of the chain, but I couldn't find where my plug was. I suppose that's a good thing, but the more I think about it the more frustrated I get thinking I cut the chain and left some there!
