This subject has been debated to death. Please put in the time yourself and scroll through this Garrett forum for those concerns.

The short answer is, if you set up the metal detector controls properly and use a metal detector as it was designed to be used, you will get excellent results. If you think your metal detector is defective, call Garrett. They have been building metal detectors for over 45 years and have about the best customer service available.

Good luck with whatever detector you buy .

The biggest complaint seems to be that, when the coil is held up in the air and wiggled, with a high sensitivity setting, it can sound off. I just happen to have an MXT handy and a Bounty Hunter and.. you guessed it, they both do EXACTLY THE SAME THING! You know what else happens? When the AT Pro coil is lowered to within a foot or so of the ground, it runs rock solid (at least mine does). I've yet to come across a coin floating 2' up in the air, so there's really no worry on my behalf. ..Willy.

Willy is dead on right. We have to remember that coils are send and receive antenna's so they can pick up other electric signals or fields. Do we want attenna's that aren't sensitive?
