AT PRO coils of choice

I bought a Garrett Super Sniper coil for my ATP a couple years ago and for whatever reason, I've only used it for about a minute or so... I got to a park, put it on, made a few swings and thought that the area would be better hunted with the stock coil so I switched back and never put the sniper back on. I REALLY need to start using it since I hunt such trashy parks with it. I figure I haven't thought of it much since I do well with the larger coil and not too much trash that I get annoyed.

Since you mentioned the weight, I figured I'd share this with you... It's a nice harness that I just bought for my girlfriends machine and although I haven't used it yet myself, I must say that it's pretty slick and the price was right. Check it out..

Yes I to have that harness for those long hunts when u feel like u just wanna go in cuz cuz ur arms gonna fall off tell ya what I've used a couple different harnesses this one takes it very comfortable easy ti use makes my pro & v3i literally weightless definetly recommend this if u like long hunts

You guy's are gonna talk me into buying a 5X8 coil! LOL! I guess I don't notice the weight, because all I have ever used is the 8.5X11 DD coil? I also have my Pro Pointer mounted on the shaft just ahead of the control box,and I just ordered a stand that helps it stay upright while it's setting on the ground(adding more weight). Mine might be the heaviest ATP swinging on the forum? I don't really notice the weight,as I did a lot of target shooting, and varmint hunting. My rifles weigh between 8 1/2 to 14 Lbs. so the ATP seems light to me,even at my old age.

U wont regret it turns it into an animal with the separation

I too love the 5x8 coil. As of yet, I haven't really noticed any appreciable loss of depth. Most of the coins in my area are 6" or less, so I really don'k think it is an issue. It is lighter, better balanced, and target separation is far better. Pinpointing is much easier as well. Well worth the $$$.

Yes good luck; you will enjoy it.

I bought the 5x8 a month or so ago and as many others said, it has been on my ATP ever since.
The target separation and pinpointing are just too great to trade for the seemingly minimal depth increase I may see with the stock coil. I'm still fairly young so weight doesn't even enter the equation.

Having said that, next weekend I'll be hunting a chunk of dirt that sits dangerously close to a civil war battlefield and contains two old foundations..I will be tempted to switch back for maximum depth.

Hit the school yard this AM before it got too hot with the 5 x 8 on the Pro and I dug a ton of coins, and didn't even realize how many until I got home. Twenty pennies (I swear these things have sex once their in the ground) two nickels, a dime and one Hot Wheel car. The pennies from 1990 and above were ringing up around 80 totally different tone as the ones from the late sixties to early eighties... the were ringing up in the seventies, low to mid seventies. I dug one bottle cap and one beaver tail and I figured that was what they were but I just wanted to double check. My conclusion is the 5 x 8 stays on the machine, maybe I would use the stock one in the water but it won't go back on the Pro too damn heavy. With the 5 x 8 the machine is so much better balanced, you won't pry it out of my hand either, its my coil of choice and a few times I had nothing but junk with the coins and it allowed me to pick those targets very easily.

I'm wondering why the AT Gold comes with this coil, and the Pro doesn't?

Do you think you get that much more depth with the 8.5X11 DD coil?

I dug some junk that was down a good eight inches if not a little more. I am happy with it; I don't want to shake anyone's in China's hand. I'm just sayin'!

I admittedly don't have enough personal experience with the 8.5x11 to form an opinion I can be confident with..yet.. but going by comparison charts and the say so of others I don't believe that the depth increase is all that great in most cases, if at all.

Having said that..my brain still tells me that BIGGER is BETTER and I may throw it back on for a few just to humor myself

I use the 5 x 8 on my AT Gold mostly for relic hunting. It gets about the same depth as the larger DD, and has excellent separation abilities in trashy areas. Check out this video. This guy shows you how to use the 5 x 8 coil to it's maximum potential.

I plan to get the 5x8 soon. I'm trying to hold out and use the clad I find to pay for it. Up to $36 :)
