Is the AT Pro just another stepping stone or would it be considered a "lifer" machine? I hunt beach and mostly South Texas. I have an Ace 350 that I've had for about 3-4 months and am considering the upgrade. I've put about 100 hours on the Ace and sometimes long for a machine that will give me more information and better wet sand performance. I just don't want to be constantly upgrading and learning new machines. Your thoughts?

Depends on the person you are so nobody can Answer that question for you. For me I had one and upgraded. But in reality I am not sure I find any more finds with my higher dollar machines. One thing I can tell you is I enjoy running my CTX much better. Target ID ability allows me to dig a little less junk and I find the tones it makes much easier to run longer. :) If you want to get serious about hunting wet sand SALT water beaches most will tell you a multifrequency machine will outperform a ATpro for sure.

the AT pro is a great machine and you could indeed be a machine you could use for many many years to come.

I love my ATP. I can definitely see someone sticking with the ATP. I think it comes down to personal preference and finances. I do plan on buying another detector, E trac or Deus, and will keep my ATP for foul weather hunting. The ONLY reason I'm going to buy another detector is that I love new toys!

Just got my AT Pro and already love the thing, so I can definitely see me sticking with this detector for a long time. I have a couple of other machines I use for specific types of hunting, but am very pleased with the "all-terrain" aspects of the AT Pro. Some guys stick to just one brand or one model, but I know plenty of guys that have an ARSENAL of metal detectors! Either way, I think the AT Pro is a great machine that you could be happy with for a long time (IMHO). Good luck!

I own a pretty decent quiver of detectors.I dont get into the whole brand war thing....ever.I dig my fisher,my minelab, and my atp.others too.

If however I had to keep just one and keep it for a long time...its gotta be the atp.I really like it alot and the coil options avail.for it are growing all the time. The dang thing just works for me and I trust it.

Thanks for the input. I respect the opinions of you experienced MDers and your expertise.

The ATP is a great detector. I vividly remember when mine arrived.
This said, as one progresses in metal detecting, other machines will be needed. (Mostly wanted) ;)
Obviously waterproof is the deciding factor. I wouldn't use an AT on saltwater beach with confidence.

Peace ✌
