Hello All,
Foxhound and I went to a house site that we'd located and walked out in the cornfield (I'll let him post what he found...
). I soon started to hear the "chatter" of iron nails on my 1266-X--a GOOD sign. The first signal I dug, a disc flopped out of the ground into the loose dirt beside the hole. I couldn't see any detail on it at all for the corrosion, but I just knew what it was by its size and thickness. A peroxide cleaning revealed this beauty, an 1818 Large Cent. This one's my oldest coin for the year. Stay tuned for a Buckleboy Housesite Huntin' Fall 2007 Wrap-Up as soon as I get all the photos together. Best wishes to all for the holidays--and a FANTASTIC 2008

I felt certain that I wouldn't be able to see a date. I thought it'd have the typical problem that LC's of that design have--the copper in them doesn't hold up well. I was expecting 1830's and was VERY surprised that it was that old. Also glad that the peroxide lifted off most of the green corroded lumps. Yes, as you can see, a few remain. It would take a dental pick to get those off of the coin--and that is where I draw the line. Her cleaning is finished. Now I have under 90 hours to score another LC, a Spanish Silver, and some CW relics... I hit three house sites here yesterday and they were all a bust. Two of them were 1700's house sites, but I only ended up with cooking pot fragments, a piece of a horse's bit, and a wheat. Hope I have time for one more Stewie dance--Will Farrell has already started following me around through the fields with that danged bell!
And she really is a beauty....hope you find many more in the hunts to come!!
