Hi everyone, its been a while since I posted to the site so here we go. I was lucky enough to go on a multi family vacation to Atlantis in the first week of Jan 2017.

After getting through customs, uggg... had to pay an import fee on my detector, what?? we finally made it to the resort. No hastle there. Needless to say I was able to detect the beach everyday. :occasion14:

My first find, ring I found was very thin but silver 1. CZ or....real... no idea?? After a few more days of detecting I found the arrow ring, silver 2. The arrow ring I think is from some designer in Texas,

but still a good find. I also manage a silver quarter, 1946 and wheat penny 1929. Coin total was about $20.00 US..(+ bahamas coins) As far as foreign coinage I found 1 euro, a 2 euro and

500 Yen coin. On the last day I did manage to find the gold colored locket with crystals. I tried to do some research and the best I can guess it was on a necklace or perhaps a purse fab. Most likely bling since I could not find

a hallmark to i.d. the piece. Oh well, but it sure did get the heart going when I found the locket. I did find a bunch of foil, scrap tin, can slaw ect.. The first picture I posted was before I tumbled my coins. Subsequent

pictures are post cleaned. I used warm water, lemon juice, jewelers media and liquid safe rock tumbler. Not pictured yet but hopefully the other FIND will be posted at some point...

please read on...

Here is the best part of the trip. I went out one of the afternoons to the beach instead of taking a nap and I was going to hit the water with the CTX. It just so happens a man approached me with his daughter.

His brother just had been married and the wedding party was celebrating on the beach. Well the new bride took off her wedding ring and set her ring on a towel. Take guess what she did when she

grabbed her towel to dry off after her dip in the ocean.... There goes said new wedding ring into the liquid sand.... Lost for the time being. I asked his brother(the groom) to grid off the area on the beach where

they thought she lost the ring so I would have an idea where to swing the coil. It was kind of tense for a while as everyone watched. When I detected something I showed them the coin or the foil or pull tab.. even the pendant

starfish I found. If it was unclaimed into the finds pouch the item went. Needless to say it took me about 10 to 15 minutes of swinging and changing discrimination patterns... wide open on the third pass. But then I heard

this sweet, crisp and clear sound 12:02 on the CTX. So I scooped some sand away brushed the area,, Viola found the wedding ring. :hello2: White gold with diamonds!! Everyone was so happy. We shook

hands, and took pictures. I gave them my information but I have not heard from them yet. Hopefully they will contact me and I can post some pictures. It felt great to find the ring and return it to the couple. She was relieved.

Everyone was able to back to the celebration. Plus both of his brothers gave me a nice tip.. :icon_thumright: ((((tried to rotate and sort the pics, sorry...))))

Awesome write up and finds. I do believe karma will be on your side this 2017 season back in the states.

Howd you like atlantis? I bought a day pass there a few years ago when I was on a cruise. I thought it was a nice resort will all of the water slides, lagoons and then their own beach.

What a great haul, and a great story! Thanks for sharing. :occasion14:

Great finds I know many people have started using silver rings with diamonds instead of gold Great finds sounds like you were really enjoying yourself That must have been a great feeling to help her find that ring which is symbolic to there whole marriage. Thanks for sharing your story and finds One for our side I hope you hear from them Good Job!!!!!!!!

Atlantis was such a blast.. so much to do, .. The beach, the water, slides, a casino and the food was fantastic. Thanks for all of your comments. I will try to keep you posted... HH and GL

Wow, nice haul. What a vacation. The silver ring with the JA is James Avery, I have bought a few of his pieces in the past. Nice finds!

Great story and pics.... good job by you!...
But...
An import fee for the detector?.... that's bizarre.
First I've heard that for Bahamas....i

Im over here in the bahamas right now. Im in eluthera. Just found a david yurman ring last week and my partner got a small silver ring today. All I got was more clad and a pair of sunglasses. Atlantis is one of my favorite spots ive done well there many times. Ill be there sometime during this trip and cant wait. Going to royal island in the next couple days to hunt old plantation ruins from 1700s.glad to here you did well over at atlantis. We just spent 2 hours hunting for a lost engagement ring that was lost 2 days ago we couldnt find it but will hunt for it again in 2 weeks when we come back to this island. Luckily I work on a yacht and dont have to pay the import fee on our detectors. We just include them in the boats equipment. photo-340.JPG

How were the water conditions sometimes the surge can be tough there ??

Question to the two guys that have posted from the Bahamas. What are the laws there as far as detecting? Can you go anywhere, or just on the hotel property that you are staying on? Thanks for any info on the detecting laws there, I hope to go myself one day soon

Congrats are in order for hel poo I ng recover the brides lost ring.
Also, congrats on all of your finds. Sounds like you had fun. How much was the import fee?

Great story and finds! :occasion14:

Great story about finding the brides ring. One of the amazing things about us detectorists.

Idk if I'm doing something wrong haha but your coins cleaned up very well.

How long did you tumble those coins that were toasted? They came out looking new. I get mine clean but not looking like that unless they were just dirty, not corroded.

I'm headed to Atlantis in June... I'd love to hear more on that import fee and if all beaches are game... Or just hotel property

Hello everyone,

Thanks for looking and thanks for the comments.:icon_thumleft:

I was also very surprised by the so called import fee.. 10% of the detectors declared value so about $250.00. (I took the CTX and the Bounty Hunter) What was so weird was the check on my luggage was completely random.

New customs agent or something. I was hauling the CTX in a Plano bow hunting case.. that may have been suspect, but the detector was safely packed away in foam and bubble wrap.. thanks to the wives framing business. ie free materials.

Customs gave me a slip of paper so I could collect my import fee when I returned from the vacation. I was just short a couple of bucks when I went to the casino... So completely random is my best guess.. Have some cash in case...

As far as cleaning the coins probably a few hours of tumbling(in the garage) with each batch... after the initial cleaning the water is scummy dark green... after the rinse and reload and tumble.. they look brand new.

The teller at the bank last year was kind of baffled when I came in with $300 bucks in shiny quarters.. kinda funny... I bought a roll of silver eagles with that haul.

Still waiting to hear from the couple hopefully they will contact me at some point... I am saving for the next detector.. probably the XP Deus,.. if I lived by the water by the beach... hands down the Excal II...

Anyhow thanks again for looking.. I maybe returning to Atlantis in the near future... :occasion14:
