We were lucky enough in around 1980 to be in Key West at a little fort they set up for the Atocha treasures. It was very well guarded but set up so you could pick up the gold and silver bars. When we were leaving, we saw a guy get out of a car carrying a small box that looked very heavy and had thick gold chains draped around his neck. We decided later it must have been Mel Fisher. That was a fun trip. The jewels in there were fabulous!

Makes one wonder how much more is out there laying on the sea floor or anywhere waiting for a treasure hunter to find. One of the greatest find of the last century for sure. Up there with the tomb of King tut imo.
