Hi

This is my first post and I live in Canberra Australia.

One of the most sought after targets here is pre-decimal silver coins which were minted up to 1964 before Australia moved to decimal currency in Feb 1966. Prior to 1946, all Australian threepences, sixpences, shillings were 92.5% silver, from 1946 until 1963/64 they were debased to 50% silver. I use a E-trac.

Tthe first Australian coins are dated 1910. I shot a video of this hunt which I did on the weekend which you might like to see. Highlights include a couple of coins spills and a 1910 threepence. I hope you enjoy it if you have the time. Link is: http://www.youtube.com/user/1963Willo?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/x0QnfYA2_BA

Regards and happy hunting to you all 1963willo

Welcome to T-Net...love all that silver. I'm a little jealous of your digging conditions...with the 100+ temperatures we've had our ground is rock hard...it finally rained yesterday so I hope that softens things up a bit.

Welcome :hello:

Good video, hate to be a buzz kill, but its best practice to leave a flap when digging, so the still attached roots have a chance to grow back. In hot weather, the grass will die, reflecting badly on us

HI Crusader - thanks for the tip - although it is mid winter over here and in that case the soil was very soggy!

No worries, something I learnt a little late. Some great video's on here, about park hunt & responsible digging techniques etc.. Not sure on your rules over there, but I use a spade on grass & dig a 3 edged flat & flip it over (it goes back easy), means I'm less likely to hit anything. If I were to hit a 2000 coin, I would cry for weeks :D :icon_thumright:
