I was qualified as an expert on hypnosis by a court of law. I used automatic writing to an extent in some of the cases where forensic hypnosis was indicated. It was helpful in retreving parts or sometimes all of "forgotten" tag numbers on suspect vehicles, clothing colors and descriptions on suspects from eye witnesses, etc. I never got into it for entertainment. In order to maintain my law enforcement credentials, I had to take an oath to not perform stage acts or to engage in hypnosis for any type of entertainment. Now I was allowed to practice my skills in private. I helped several people to find lost items such as misplaced car keys, etc. I gave several demonstrations for law enforcement personnel and once for the courts. Automatic writing is real, it is highly accurate depending on your subject and the hypnotist. The hypnotist must be careful to not be so suggestive it changes the memory of of the subject. False memories can be fabricated under hypnosis and any hint of same will get your evidence thrown out of court. It became so difficult to walk such a thin line that most police agencies have all but abandoned it. But I know it works and have demonstrated it many, many times and solved several cases, especially rape cases by evidence turned up under hypnosis. The margin of error is probably better than that of a polygraph if the hypnotist is proficient. I use to tape all my sessions just to prove I performed it correctly. Admittidly most of my work was in the forensic field, but my sister is a Psychologist of some note and I helped her refine her skills after she took a professional training course sanctioned by the NPA. I haven't dabbled with in so long I would be really rusty, but I think I could still induce a "trance" and put on a demonstration if called upon. And that's what I know about that. Monty
