I Recently metal detected a house that was built in 1880. I found a 1944 quarter, an 1889 IH, 1902 IH, 1904 IH, a 193? Buffalo Nickel, and about 17 Wheat pennies all in the front yard! I never found an Indian Head or Buffalo Nickel prior to this hunt.:hello2: I also found an old Yale Junior padlock, a NYS dog tag from 1950, and a Jesus souvenir pin. The owner told me that when he was a kid, him and his friends use to hang out at the house and they buried a Time Capsule in the backyard. This would be back in the 1940s. He didn't remember if the container or any of the contents were metal, but he thought it would be cool if I could find it. Anybody have any tips on trying to find it? He said it was Probably buried close to a foot in the ground.

Have you ever dowsed before? Does it work?

No I have never done it.
Some people Swear by it.
Only time I ever saw someone using it, it was to locate water.
Not sure if it worked.
it as on a Sidewalk, in front of a firehouse.

was just a Semi Lighthearted comment, being you's are not even sure what it is made of,
and may not be any Metal.

so If it's all Plastic you gotta dig
& the only thing That may locate Non Metal items
May be Dowsing, a psychic or luck if there is a difference :tongue3:

other then that, Just keep Digging those signals.
there just may be something Metal there after all

I would use the deepest coil you have and dig all the deep targets. If the container was metal or a mason Jar with a metal ring there might be enough of the metal or rust halo to pick it up.

Thanks for the tips. I started to metal detect the area he showed me and there are a lot of signals. I'm just really not sure what to look for.

a foot down to a kid is more like 4" to an adult so maybe that 250 ya swinging will pick something up.1940's=metal toy soldiers, matchbox cars, and jr.sheriffs badges so keep that discrimination turned real low and dig everything in that area.
