Friday was a half-day at my work, so I took advantage and headed down to the 1650's farmland I've been hunting. Right away I started getting good targets, gilt buttons, Indian Head pennies, musket balls, and other Colonial goodies. Then I got a nice loud 87 on my XP Deus. Very shallow, I figured it must be a can, but I decided to dig anyway. Turns out no digging was needed, all I had to do was look down and I saw a nice green copper disc. It tuned out to be the second William III Halfpenny I've pulled out of this field, and in almost the same spot as the one I dug during the Spring. The bust faces to the Right and the ribbon is visible, I also think I can make out a 16 on the reverse, but can't see the other two numbers yet. Another day in the peroxide might give me a full date. A few lead bale seals, some more musket balls, and an Ox knob later, I got my next really solid high tone. The Deus read a consistent 89 and I thought for sure I had another large copper or at least a wheatie. I was absolutely amazed when I flipped the plug and saw a cross staring up at me! I thought "no f'n way!" I just dug my Oldest silver yet, and only my second Spanish Silver. It turned out to be a 1771 2-Real! After my heart settled down, I filled in my whole and started down the same line. Boom! My headphones sounded off again, this time I had my fingers crossed that my Spanish had some amigos. No such luck, but I did dig this really neat William Howard Taft Inaugural medal part. I found a picture of what I think it came from.

Can anyone tell me more about the Spanish 2-Reale? I wish it hadn't been plow struck, but I can't complain :unhappysmiley:

Wow! I am not sure the day could have gotten much better. Those are some old relics and coins. No doubt on your I.D on Taft.Maybe the bottom part is there but with coins like that who cares! Nice finds. That is a great site. Good luck.

Congrats on the Spanish!!! Awesome job!

Thank you! I was surprised how fast I was able to ID the Taft thing. Google has some magical powers. I've pulled a few CT coppers, a William III Farthing, a semi-key 1871 2-Cent coin, a 1897 Barber Half and a GKII from this sight as well. Several other Tnet-ers have found some great finds in the area too. Thanks for the comments, happy hunting

Nice coins and relics

Wow! You make it look so easy. BTW... that ring appears quite old--should have it checked out.

Cool finds Jason, when you going again? Is it still a snowshoe field?:laughing7: Love that Spanish dude!!! God Bless Chris

Unfortunately its plated, second plated one from the site. Found 4 colonial brass rings as well.

Chris, I got into a little car accident the other night on my way home from this hunt. Got rear ended at a stop light, Trucks ok, but I'm going to be out of commission till I'm cleared by the Dr. I may try to get out for an hour or two hear and there just to stay limber though...

Great coins and relics

I'm not sure that the leaf thing is, but I've found about a dozen of them in this field. They are associated with some vine like brass pieces as well.

So I did a little cleaning on what I thought was a button that I found near the 2 Real. Turns out, it wasn't a button after all, but another Spanish Silver! Also, One of the buttons that I found that day might be my first Civil War button. Please lDSCN2287.webpet me know what you think.DSCN2289.webpDSCN2295.webpDSCN2296.webp
