I have found ones like that from the logging era of the 1880's. But they are still made the same style now, so it could be much newer.

Yeah, I've been calling them go devils for more then 50 years, but if I had used that word the majority of people would have no idea what it was. I had already ID it as a splitting wedge.

Back in the mid '70's, I was in a bowling league and named our team "Go Devils". All because I had found a couple out metal detecting.
