I recently was granted permission to hunt an abandoned 1800's home with three massive hayfields. He told me to come back after the hay was cut.

I took a spin out today and lo and behold, the fields were done! Unfortunately, he left the area around the house and it is near impossible to detect.

Anyway, here's a pic of the area.

I only had an hour to detect as I had to work tonight. But, I am going to hit this place hard on my days off as the window to detect it is short. Before I know it, the hay will all be waist high again.

I did end up finding an old axe, a couple of musketballs, the usual scrap metals and an old thimble. The thimble has a lovely little design on it.

Chances are most of the things I'll find wont be valuable. I'll have to put together a little box for him. Maybe then he'll cut around the house. :P

Happy hunting!

Good idea. I think I will ask him if it okay first. Perhaps he'll have some 'heavy duty farm whacker' I could use.

I really would be a fool if I didn't get in around the house. :tard:

Musketballs and a silver thimble, just in the field?! :o
You've got a great place to hunt there Gio! :notworthy:
Just imagine what you're going to find around that gorgeous house eh!

Dave

PS. I was working in Moncton & Saint John a couple of weeks ago, no time to detect though! :'(

I guess the property isn't on the water? If not, yeah can't imagine too many finds in the fields as it was likely the only house ever there.

Good start...is the thimble silver?

Agreed!! But, in any case, I found myself sitting here daydreaming about getting permission to go inside the house to search. (Just until the yard gets mowed of course.) :laughing9:

Madre Mio........So many hidy-holes. :o :laughing7: :laughing7:

Ah Antiquarian, you need to give us a ring next time you're around.

As for the thimble being silver... I am not quite sure. It could be silver! Beneath the dirt I see some luster. I need to give it a good cleaning. It has been flattened, and I don't want to break it... but clean it I shall. Not like I can wreck it.

Good eye Romeo. I thought it was brass or something... but after a good cleaning, you are right. :icon_sunny:
