I found a small spoon apparently a baby spoon or play spoon. I cant tell if its silver or aluminum. I found it at a old homesite here in ms. Used quarter for size comparison. Can anyone look and tell what its made of? Were old spoons made from aluminum too? Thanks for the help! Jeremy

That looks like silverplate to me. The corrosion is indicative of silverplate that has bern in the ground for a substantial amount of time.

It looks like plated steel. I have found a lot just like that made of aluminum, and they are extremely light.

i think it may be a toy or doll spoon. they were made from all sorts of materials--pewter, silverplate, lead alloys, etc. i have seen the plated steel ones, but usually they are very flimsy and the plating is so thin it wears off even without being buried. this looks like it is of thicker construction. is the orange stuff corrosion, or just gunk caked to the surface? it looks more like solid base metal alloy.
